The Group is now doing business with most of the global OEMs with twelve production plants and sales and engineering companies in Europe, NAFTA, China and India supported by central engineering development and service companies in Europe. During this time, the sales of the Group could nearly be tripled to plan above 400 Mio Euro in 2020 and employment doubled to 5.500 employees.
Recently the Group has been successfully moved through the pandemic crisis and the production in all plants has successfully restarted together with the restart of the automotive passenger car customers.
With the successful acquisition of Anhui Tristone Flowtech Ltd in China, Ningguo in January 2020 and the following completed successful integration, the company could recently improve the market position in China significantly in addition to the already good market position in Europe and NAFTA. With the high order book on hand and the strong technical position especially towards hybrid and electrical passenger cars, the company is expecting despite the pandemic effects an one digit growth in sales 2020.
Tristone Flowtech Group is highly specialized on fluid applications in the areas of engine and battery cooling as well as air charge systems for the automotive passenger car industry. The Group is benefiting from the trend towards a reduction of space and fuel consumption with the introduction of polyamide materials as well as the introduction of new powertrain concepts with hybrid and electrical cars and the integration of fluid applications for engine and battery cooling systems.

Tristone Flowtech Group with partial unemployment across Europe, NAFTA and India Public and industrial shut down measures in Europe and especially in Germany due to COVID-19 pandemic need to be lifted soon
Tristone Flowtech Group with partial unemployment across Europe, NAFTA and India Public and industrial shut down measures in Europe and especially in Germany due to COVID-19 pandemic need to be lifted soon
Tristone Flowtech Group, Frankfurt/M. Germany: The company reports implementation of substantial partial unemployment and plant shutdowns measures since end of March in five out of seven production plants across Europe. This includes the company’s plants in Italy, Spain, France, Poland and Slovakia. Beginning this week, both plants in the NAFTA region, in Mexico and US, are also in shutdown.Tristone’s plant in India has been also in shutdown since mid-March due to the Corona pandemic forced a public nation-wide lock down . The plant shutdowns will continue for at least one to two weeks, and as long as four weeks depending on the customer portfolio and the location of the plant. Both of the company’s plants in China are running again nearly on the planned level which is helping in the current situation.
In addition, partial unemployment and similar measures could be also agreed with the workers council in Germany for the group headquarter, as well as in the Shared Service Center in Czech Republic, the Engineering Center in France and the Sales and Engineering Center in the USA.
“This means, that at the moment roughly 4.000 employees are on forced vacation and partial unemployment out of the 5.200 employees in our 12 production plants and 17 legal entitities around the world. At the moment we are not considering to release temporary staff in our production plants and central service companies, but this would be the next step if the situation would continue“ so Günter Frölich, CEO & President of the Group.
“Now it is important, that clear decisions will be taken soon from the different governments in some European countries, mainly in Germany, but also in Italy, Spain and France to lift the public shutdown measures soon. Looking especially at the situation in Italy, where four weeks of rigorous public shutdowns and curfews have only yielded minimal reductions in the number of new infection with the virus. I can’t imagine, that this is in any relation to the economic damage for the public communities and states in the different countries, as well as the financial damage of our company,“ so Günter Frölich CEO & President of the Group. It is also interesting to see, that some countries in Europe, like Switzerland, Netherland and Sweden are dealing with this situation more pragmatically and avoiding a public shutdown, as is the case in Korea, Japan and Taiwan.”
The Group has reached year-to-date February 9,2 % organic sales growth versus prior year in line with plan. Including the recent acquisition in China, year to date February sales are 18,3 % higher versus prior year. After the sharp drop on sales due to the public shutdown measures and the shutdown of most of the OEM plants in Europe since Mid of March, we have reached ytd March now still a small increase of sales of 2,0 % versus prior year instead of the planned 12,0 % higher sales, including the recent taken acquisition sales are 9,5 % higher versus previous year.
“Originally the Group has foreseen a sales growth in 2020 of 33% versus prior year to 400 Mio EUR including the recent acquisition. It is at the moment hard to predict the impact of the next weeks, but we assume at the moment that three will be a slow recovery of the economy starting end of April in Europe and beginning of May in NAFTA. With our Group equity ratio of 40 % and the solid cash position, we expect to manage the current crisis without financing support of the German government excluding usage of extended partial unemployment and tax regulations.”, so Sonja Rossteuscher-Schütze, CFO of the Group.
Effective January 1, 2020 a share purchase transaction has been completed with the purchase of Anhui Zhongding Rubber Hose Products Co. Ltd, Ningguo from Anhui Zhongding Sealing Co. Ltd., Ningguo contributing roughly 38 Mio Euro additional sales with roughly 500 employees. In the meantime the company has been already integrated in the Group and had been renamed in Anhui Tristone Flowtech Ltd.,located in Ningguo/China.

Tristone Group with sales up 6 % in first nine months despite declining markets
Tristone Group with sales up 6 % in first nine months despite declining markets
Tristone Flowtech Group located in Frankfurt/M. communicated a sales growth of +6 % versus prior year in the first nine month of 2019 to 222.4 Mio Euro (prior year 209.6 Mio Euro) despite declining automotive passenger car markets mainly in China, Europe and partially in NAFTA.
‘This sales growth is again a strong signal in declining markets, where most of our OEM customers and the other market participants are faced with declining sales’ so Guenter Froelich, President & CEO, Tristone Group. ‘This positive sales growth is driven by Tristones broad OEM customer portfolio in the different regional markets and our strong market position in our business fields. In addition, we are highly satisfied with very high business awards of close to 92 M€ annual sales with a share of more than 42 % for battery electric or hybrid passenger cars. At the same time, we recognize the challenging overall market situation is impacting all players. Related to this, we are seeing a first example of a OEM trying to use their market position to ignore contractual obligations towards our Group.’
‘The changed market environment and the costs for the new plants in start-up in the USA and India as well as the high number of program start-ups caused a drop of the Group’s EBIT profitability below prior years. As a consequence, we will be reducing our high investment level’ so Sonja Rossteuscher-Schuetze, CFO of the Group.
The Group is expecting now a sales growth versus prior year of +7 % in 2019 to 311 Mio Euro and a sales growth of +17 % to 364 M€ in 2020 mainly driven by ongoing start-ups based on booked business with the global OEMs in Europe, NAFTA, China and India despite the weaker automotive business in some markets.
In August 2019, the new production plant in Mooresville, North Carolina, USA started with serial production for the first OEM customer in US. Further manufacturing start-ups are in preparation in the new plant and are expected during the coming quarters.
In June 2019, the Group opened its expanded facilities in Walbrzych, Poland, with an expanded plastic plant as well as central engineering laboratory. In addition, the groundbreaking of a further plant expansion of 6.200 m2 manufacturing and logistic space was held, which will double the hose production capacity in the next years in Tristone Poland. The production plant in Poland is delivering to a broad range of global automotive passenger car customers including Ford, Volvo, RSA, Nissan, FCA, PSA, Daimler, BMW, Suzuki, JLR, and Ferrari.
In April 2019, the Group opened a further new production plant in Mooresville, North Carolina, USA to support the NAFTA market with its automotive customer plants in US and Canada in addition to the existing production plant in Mexico. It will host hose production as well as, in a next step, plastic pipe and plastic surge tank production for engine and battery cooling applications for major OEMs.

‘The sales growth would have been even close to 5,0 % in the first half-year excluding negative foreign exchange impacts’ so Günter Frölich, President & CEO, Tristone Group. ‘This is a strong sign in a market situation where most of our OEM customers and competitors are faced with no sales increase or lower sales. This is also driven by TRISTONEs broad OEM customer portfolio including in the meantime nearly all global OEMs. The EBIT profitability of the Group is still on a good level but below prior years mainly caused by start-up costs of the new plants in the US and India as well as significant new program start-ups.

TRISTONE Flowtech Group - won Award in the US
Bi-layer co-extrusion plastic pipe - polyamide coupled with advanced processing technology bring innovation to automotive coolant pipes (Awarded by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) for most Innovative use of Plastics Award – Chassis 2014)
Replacing metal, saving weight
The quest for Tristone Flowtech Group was to find a material/technology solution for an unusually long 2 to 3 meter variable flexibility coolant pipe designed to transport water and glycol fluid from the radiator end tank at the front of the car to the engine at the back, while saving weight. The challenge was not so much the length of the part since it was extruded, but to produce large pipes of up to 27mm diameter, with suitable compliance that would still resist 3 bar pressures, aggressive fluids, and road salt.
The solution was found with Dupont via a co-extrusion of Bynel®PP & Zytel® PA612 LCPA and its patented Variable Stiffness Bellows (VSB) technology, enabling thermoplastic parts to be flexible yet high pressure resistant. At the same time, the new pipe can withstand engine compartment temperatures of 150°C, aggressive fluid temperatures up to 120°C combined with road salt, and continuous working temperatures of 95°C.
In this application, Zytel® PA612 in a corrugated extrusion offers a lightweight alternative to metal, enabling up to 60% weight reduction over the former aluminum component.
This product is applied on Renault Twingo and Daimler Smart programs:

Tristone Flowtech Group Plant Nantes in France / New buildings
“We’re happy to announce the completion of new buildings for our plant Nantes, France“, so Michael Schlachter Managing Director of the company.
With this project, initiated in 2011, we could reach two main objectives:
- Integrate warehouse surface directly connected to the existing facility, in order to internalize the storage and the dispatching of the finished goods, which were outsourced to a logistics provider and therefore to optimize the plant layout.
- Destroy old buildings attached to our company.
The new building was provided by an industrial building investor, Alsei. We could contract with the industrial building investor to refurbish the old building, and equip it with all the necessary equipments in order to use it as a logistic warehouse. In that respect, 6.000m² of old building and offices were destroyed. They have refurbished 5.000m² remaining surface, installed new lighting system, created a complete new concrete floor, according to logistic flatness standard, created three docks, according to the latest legislation, and they have created a corridor connecting this refurbished building to our factory.
Our company in Nantes is now managing all the logistics with its own personnel, with a storage capacity of 3.700 pallets of finished goods, and is shipping 16 trucks per day to our various customers. The employees are now able to use parking slots directly next to the plant.
With this project, so Günter Frölich, President and CEO of the Group, “we are showing our commitment to provide investments also in France to improve the competitiveness of our company and to provide a modern plant infrastructure for our employees”.
